The JBFC supports the Victory Junction Gang.

The beautiful, natural setting for The Victory Junction Gang Camp is 72 acres of land surrounded by hardwood forest. The camp is located in Randleman, N.C., approximately 15 minutes outside of Greensboro. Nestled in the foothills of the Piedmont Triad, this site offers a rolling terrain with several creeks and woodland streams running through the property.

Victory Junction Gang Camp

Anyone who has watched the NASCAR races has had a opportunity to see the commercials for the Victory Junction camp with Kenny Schrader, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Green, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and others.  Last year before the Darlington truck race, I extended my race weekend to include a stop to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.  It was an eye opening experience and a breathtaking facility.

The Victory Junction Gang fulfills a wish of Adam Petty to open a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses.  Unfortunately Adam never got to see his dream evolve, as his life ended tragically in a practice racing accident in 2000.  Kyle and Patty Petty moved forward with Adam's project.

The camp is open to visitors and they have organized tours for fans to see this project up close and personal.  If you are looking for a charity to be involved with, please check them out.  You can be a volunteer for a camp counselor or even administrative help.    You would be making a difference.  For photos of my tour - click hereBarb

In Memory of Barb Kurtz

By:  Barb Benson (August - 2010)

It's a sad day for the Benson's.

We have lost a good friend and supporter of the JBFC and the Benson family.  They say you can place people you meet into three categories - acquaintances, friends / family and your inner circle.  Jim and Barb Kurtz is part of our inner circle.

Over the years, Barb performed acts of kindness.  She made sure that Johnny had chocolate chip cookies when he came home to race at Berlin Raceway, doughnuts were brought every Saturday morning for John Sr. for their coffee break and she shortened my race shirts because they were too long.

And then there is her dedication to this fan club   ....  If you attended the fan club open houses or the races at Berlin Raceway when we were selling souvenirs, you would be greeted by Barb's smiling face as she handled the sales.  If you received a monthly newsletter, she played a part in making sure the labels and stamps were placed on the envelope.  If there was a bus trip to MIS - she was on it.  If Johnny was racing - she knew where he was running.  The list goes on and on ...

In recent months, Barb had been battling a brain tumor.  It's an unforgiving illness and takes a hard toll on the body.  I had a chance to visit her last week.  At the end of our visit I said I had to go and get ready for Johnny to return to Grand Rapids so he could race at Berlin.  She looked and me and said, "He has a good deal".  We both chuckled and I said he sure does ...

As I sit here and think about the celebration of Barb's life I realize that "we had a good deal".  She has made a difference and lasting impression to all those who came in contact with her.

May you rest in peace - you will be missed, but not forgotten.  I know you will be watching from above.
